Bringing Nature Indoors Through Commissioned Art
A significant highlight in my commissioned artwork portfolio is a series created for an elegant American residence. I was approached directly by the project architect seeking four large-scale paintings that would become the centerpiece of a formal living space.
This exciting commission demonstrates how original artwork can transform architectural spaces, creating a seamless connection between interior design and the natural landscape beyond.
The Architectural Vision
The Architect’s vision was an all-white, pristine room, with one glazed wall offering views of the property's grounds, sloping toward a lake. The architect's concept - to bring this lake vista directly into the interior space through large paintings, effectively making the natural landscape the focal point of the room.
Commission Process - From Concept to Installation
For this significant commission the collaborative process was -
Initial Consultation: Detailed discussions with the architect about the space, desired atmosphere, and how the artwork would complement the architectural elements
Concept Development: Creation of thumbnail sketches exploring different compositional approaches and color palettes inspired by the lakeside setting
Direction Selection: The architect and client selected their preferred direction, specifying exact dimensions and proportions to perfectly fit the designed space
Creation Process: Development of the final paintings with regular progress updates, including mid-point approval from both architect and client
Completion and Delivery: Documentation of final artworks before secure international shipping and installation
Working with Design Professionals and Individuals
While this commission came through an architectural firm, I have also worked with homeowners, personal collectors and art consultants to paint individualised pieces. Most commissions begin with a spark when someone encounters a particular painting of mine they love, and dreams of something similar for their wall.
If this might be you,
In the image of the room below, the paintings are still shielded in protective plastic. We eagerly await photographs of the completed space.
